Our Mission

Student Dispatch covers Massachusetts state and local news, with stories written by college students. Our focus is an in-depth analysis and explanatory journalism. Student Dispatch is launching as a pilot in Fall 2021 with ten students, all juniors at Tufts University. We hope to incorporate students from other schools as well. Read here if you want to join us.

Student Dispatch has two goals. We aim to bring to the greater Boston community important news that would otherwise go uncovered. We also aim to cultivate the next generation of citizens and journalists. Students develop their stories with the mentorship of a professional editor and a political scientist. Together, we learn about writing and about state and local politics.

Student Dispatch is a project of Eitan Hersh, a political scientist at Tufts University. This pilot program is funded by Tufts University’s Tisch College of Civic Life.
